Course Information
Description The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology. Systems to be studied include endocrine, cardiovascular, immune,
lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics).
Prerequisites The lab provides an online learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology. Systems to be studied include endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics). Corequisite(s): BIOL 2302. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 2301 and BIOL 2101
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the general function of the endocrine system including, mechanisms of hormone action, regulation of hormone release, hormone actions, and endocrine glands, and endocrine disorders and treatments. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

2. Demonstrate an understanding of blood composition, blood functions, blood disorders, heart anatomy and function. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, and/or assignments.

3. Demonstrates an understanding of the location of the major arteries and veins of the vascular system as well as the function of the circulatory system. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

4. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the GI system, the structure and GI functions of the liver, gall bladder, and pancreas, and the various metabolic and nutritional processes involved in digestion. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

5. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the respiratory, lymphatic, & renal systems. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

6. Demonstrate an understanding of the location and function(s) of the structures of the male and female reproductive structures. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

7. Demonstrate an understanding of reading material including relevant terminology. (PSLO alpha) Measured by pre-post test questions.

8. Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with fellow students to complete group assignments and/or cover assigned material. (PSLO 4) Measured by group assignments in the lab portion of the course.

Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

-The REQUIRED workbook for the Bio 2102 lab (A&P2) is “Laboratory Manual for Human Anatomy & Physiology” by Greene, Robinson, and Strong. 1st ed. Pearson Publishing, ISBN:978-01-354-79-391
You will also need a copy of the lecture textbook and the Modified Mastering A&P Access code that goes with the lecture textbook. The lecture textbook is "Human Anatomy & Physiology", 2nd ed by Erin Amerman. The ISBN number for the lecture textbook only is 978-0134-754-239. The ISBN number for the Modified Mastering A&P access code is 978-0-134-78807-4

The MAP access code can be purchased directly from Pearson on the Mastering A&P site which is the cheapest place to get it. If purchased online, there will be 2 main options (approximate prices) a $70 version and a $120 version. The ONLY difference between these is the $120 version includes access to an electronic textbook (etext) while the $70 version does not. This MAP access code is ABSOLUTELY required. This MAP access code is used for lectures and labs in both A&P1 and A&P2 (4 courses). Instructions for purchase from Pearson are posted in the Course Information folder on the course website.

Lab Exam 1 will begin at 6 pm on 2/7 and will end at 10 pm on 2/10.
Lab Exam 2 will begin at 6 pm on 3/7 and will end at 10 pm on 3/10.
Lab Exam 3 will begin at 6 pm on 4/4 and will end at 10 pm on 4/7.
Lab Exam 4 will begin at 8 pm on 5/6/2020 and will end at 8 pm on 5/9/2020.

This is an online class. It is YOUR responsibility to have a RELIABLE computer AND Internet access for the duration of this course. Please note that while many of the course materials can be accessed using a cell phone and/or tablet device, there are many questions on the homework assignments that can only be accessed on a computer (desktop or laptop). In addition; EXAMS CAN ONLY BE TAKEN ON A LAPTOP OR DESKTOP COMPUTER. If your computer breaks for any reason during the semester, IT DOES NOT EXCUSE YOU FROM THE REQUIREMENTS AND DEADLINES OF THE COURSE. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure all assignments and exams are completed by their due date. Any assignments and/or exams not completed by the end of the availability date will receive a grade of "0" zero.

Determination of
Final Grade		 Each lab exam will count 20% toward your final lab average. There will be 4 lab exams which will represent 80% of your grade.
The average of all of the online pre-lab assignments and projects will count for 20% of your final lab average.

No grades are dropped when calculating averages.
No makeup exams are given, and there are NO re-takes on any exam.
All lab exams must be taken as scheduled during your lab period.

Lecture and Lab grades are NOT combined. Each course will be graded independently. Exams that are not taken as scheduled will receive a grade of zero.

Attendance Policy Attendance in all labs IS REQUIRED. It is NOT possible to attend a lab from a different instructor. It is also NOT possible to take a lab exam from a different lab instructor.
If you have questions, you can come by during my office hours, or you can email me at anytime. You will need to schedule time to complete exams during their period of availability.
You will be able to take an exam after the scheduled availability period, but there will be a time penalty imposed (10% time reduction for each day that student is late taking the exam).

If you miss an exam because of an excused absence, your lowest lecture exam score will be used as the score for the exam that you missed. Excused absences include medical and family emergencies and are determined at the instructor's discretion. You can only miss one exam with an excused absence (excluding the final), and you must take the final exam. Poor preparation or conflict with other scheduled exams is not a valid excuse for missing an exam.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.

  2. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission.
